The City of Owensboro intends to submit an application for a U.S. Department for Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Pro Housing Pathways to Removing Obstacles grant. This grant application is a significant step toward enhancing housing opportunities and removing barriers to affordable housing within our community. In preparation for the application submission, the City of Owensboro Community Development Department has posted the application for public review and comment at Owensboro.org.

3rd Annual downtown Oktoberfest event featuring local (including state-wide) breweries, distilleries, food trucks, vendors, arts/crafts and live music.

Do you have a DogVinci? Perhaps a Catelangelo? Show us your Petcasso by having your pet "paint" an 8X10 canvas with non-toxic paints. Cost will be $20 per canvas. Participants will sign in and pay upon arrival at park. Limited number of participants will be allowed in the shelter at any one time. All others will be asked to remain outside until your name is called. This will be on a first come, first served basis. All dogs are required to be on a leash and under control at all times. Cats must be in crates. A larger crate will be available for your cat to "paint". All pets will be handled only by their owners. Each dog participating will have the family pick colors and design for the canvas. A volunteer or other adult will apply the paint to the canvas. Canvas will be placed into a ziploc baggie that has peanut butter spread on one side. The dog will lick the peanut butter thus spreading the paint around the canvas. The baggie with the canvas inside will then be given to the family to take home. Instructions to remove canvas upon arrival at home and place flat to dry will be given to family members. Cats can participate as well by using either a laser light or liquid cat treats.

This family-friendly Halloween event returns to downtown Owensboro for an evening of Trick-or-Treating, character appearances, and special photo opportunities with some other surprise guests. The Foust PTO is hosting their second annual “Frightening Foust 5k” on Saturday, October 28th, 2023. The timed run will start and end at Foust Elementary, circling through the neighborhood. This Parent Teacher Organization event will function as both a fundraiser for the school, as well as a positive community event for the area. Participants are encouraged to run or walk in costume, as this will be a Halloween-themed event. Participants will receive a shirt and Halloween goodie bag with their entry. In addition to the goodies, participants and their families will be invited to the Foust Fall Festival, located at the finish line of the 5K. Each participant will receive a free entry to do each station one time.
