The City of Owensboro will celebrate Independence Day at its annual All-American Fourth of July event on Sunday, July 4, 2021. Building on the tremendous success of the Healthy at Home Fireworks the city hosted last year, the 2021 All-American Fourth of July will combine the annual celebration on the riverfront with the three additional fireworks locations throughout the city. The celebration will get started in Smothers Park along the downtown riverfront at 5:00pm on Sunday, July 4. Live music will be provided by Alonzo Pennington at 5:00pm and The Downtown Band at 7:00pm. At 9:15pm, the 15 minute fireworks show will be launched from barges on the Ohio River for everyone gathered along the riverfront. Three (3) additional locations throughout the city with also be launched simultaneously with the riverfront show. These locations include Centre Court/Shifley Park, Owensboro Sportscenter/Moreland Park, and Owensboro Warehouse Leasing/former GE plant. Spectators can tune in to 92.5 FM WBKR to listen to the soundtrack to which the fireworks have been choreographed. For the safety of the public and the pyrotechnic professionals, the secure fireworks launch sites throughout the city will not be open to the public. • Bless the Block

    Friday July 30, 2021

Location: W. 5th St. to W. 7th St. and Elm St. to Orchard St.
    Contact: Justin Kline

We started "Bless the Block" last summer as the alternative (due to the pandemic) to our annual VBS on 5th Street. This would be the 11 year anniversary of bringing VBS to the neighborhood. We don't want to miss the opportunity to serve our community - a predominantly black neighborhood - especially during this time of racial unrest. It was received so well last year in our community that we wanted to continue the tradition (in lieu of VBS again in an attempt to be proactive to protect the spread of covid and avoid large gatherings). The parade goes through the Baptown area (blocks: 5th-7th Street and Elm - Orchard) where families are able stay in their own yards. Trailers serve as the "floats," and from these trailers we are able to pass out meals, cleaning supplies, gift cards, tshirts, etc. One of the trailers would include a live musician and speaker. Security will walk alongside the vehicles to keep children (or anyone else!) from running into the street and up to the floats.
