Soapbox Derby Open Track

These dates are Open Track Days for children and their parents to come out to the track to find out more about Soapbox Derby Racing and to take trial runs down the hill. The May 6th date will also be our Super Kids Race for special needs children. The winner of this race will advance to the All American Race in Akron during the summer. The June 3rd will also be our Impound Day for racers that will be running in the Local Soapbox Race on June 10th.

The Owensboro Neighborhood Alliances will once again host the annual neighborhood cleanups this year. The cleanups will take place from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the dates listed below. All residents in the cleanup areas are encouraged to help beautify the neighborhood by picking up litter along sidewalks and streets on their scheduled cleanup day. Boundaries for your neighborhood alliance can be found at https://services.owensboro.org/maps/citizen-information.
The Sanitation Department will provide free curbside pick-up to alliance residential customers for junk furniture, appliances, tires, and other items. Place items curbside by the Friday night prior to your scheduled cleanup. If you have large items, please call CityAction at 270-687-4444 or e-mail cityaction@owensboro.org BY THE WEDNESDAY BEFORE YOUR CLEANUP to schedule pick-up. Smaller items must be bagged or boxed. Sanitation crews CANNOT collect construction debris/materials, yard waste, dirt, paint, or any type of liquid.

Owensboro Drone Light Show

Location: Downtown Riverfront
Visit Owensboro, in partnership with the City of Owensboro and German American Bank, is bringing a drone show to downtown Owensboro over the Ohio River on Wednesday, May 17 and Friday, 19.
Firefly Drone Shows will bring 300 drones to fly over the river, making different shapes and formations for spectators to enjoy. The show will begin at 8:30 P.M. each evening and last for approximately 15 minutes. A synced soundtrack will be played both nights to go along with the drone show.

May 20-21 is a Rally Race Weekend where racers from around the area and surrounding states will be competing to earn points to attend the All American Race in Akron. Racers will be recognized and there will be games and other activities for them and their families. June 10th will be the Local Race where kids will compete to earn a trip to the All American Race in Akron. June 11th is the rain date for the Local Race. August 19-20 is another Rally Race Weekend. September 9-10 and November 4-5 are Rally Races where racers from the area and other states will compete for points to earn a trip to the All American Race in Akron.

Once we go, the approved route is starting at the Sportscenter, west on W. Parrish Ave., to Hwy 60 East (bypass), exit to Hwy 144 to 2nd Street and finish at the Convention Center. Trying to set the KY longest Convoy record, and donations will go to a non-profit. -

Annual Memorial Day Walk for the Fallen in conjunction with the 5k event by Brandon Scott Mullins Memorial Foundation. Approximately 11 mile walk around Owensboro to honor and remember all those who gave their lives while serving in our nation’s military.
