GOLD STAR FAMILIES MEMORIAL MONUMENT
DEDICATION CEREMONY
AUGUST 25, 2020
The Gold Star Families Memorial Monument will be unveiled during a dedication ceremony on Tuesday, August 25 at 1:00 pm CDT. Located at 119 East Veterans Boulevard, this stunning monument honors Gold Star families as they continue to endure the loss of their loved ones and is a place for our community to honor and remember the fallen. The ceremony is open to the public, however guests are encouraged to follow social distancing guidelines and wear a mask for their safety. The ceremony will be streamed live on Facebook @CityofOwensboro.
“Once again our wonderful community has gone above and beyond expectations to provide this monument honoring the families who have lost a loved one in defense of our freedom,” Mayor Watson said.
The Gold Star Families Memorial Monument is a two-sided tribute made of black granite. One side bears the words: Gold Star Families Memorial Monument, a tribute to Gold Star Families and Relatives who sacrificed a Loved One for our Freedom. The other side tells a story through the four granite panels: Homeland, Family, Patriot, and Sacrifice. The scenes on each panel are a reflection of our community’s Gold Star Families and their fallen Heroes. At the center of this tribute is a silhouette of the Loved One who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the name of Freedom. Photo attached.
