FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CITY OF OWENSBORO ‘ELF ON THE SHELF’ SCAVENGER HUNT RETURNS, TREE LIGHTING GOES VIRTUAL

The City of Owensboro’s ‘Elf on the Shelf’ Scavenger Hunt will return to downtown Owensboro on Friday, December 4 and will continue through Sunday, December 6.

The annual scavenger hunt is normally part of the Holiday Stroll activities that usually take place on the first Saturday in December. With restrictions in place limiting any crowds gathering for events, the traditional Holiday Stroll activities had to be changed.  This year, the scavenger hunt will become a weekend-long event in order to space out crowds and give participants more opportunities to complete the hunt.

There will be ten numbered elves hidden throughout downtown Owensboro, and participants must find them all and upload their photos to Instagram. One lucky winner who locates all of the elves will be chosen at random to win the grand prize package from downtown Owensboro merchants, consisting of two reserved seating tickets for both the 2021 Owensboro Air Show and the 2021 Owensboro HydroFair presented by Jagoe Homes, and more than $80 in gift cards for downtown restaurants. All elves will be visible from the outdoors in order to keep indoor crowds to a minimum. All of the ‘Elf on the Shelf’ Scavenger Hunt rules and details can be found on the City of Owensboro’s Facebook page, or by following @cityofowensboro on Instagram.

In compliance with the limit on crowds for events, the Christmas tree lighting ceremony will take place virtually this year. On Saturday, December 5 at 5:00PM, everyone is invited to watch the live-stream of the tree lighting on the City of Owensboro’s Facebook page.

“The holidays look a little different for everyone this year, but we are excited to still be able to bring some socially-distanced fun to downtown Owensboro with a few things that we traditionally do each year,” said Tim Ross, Director of Public Events for the City of Owensboro.
