FIFTH ANNUAL DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL TO BE HELD AT ENGLISH PARK

The City of Owensboro invites you to the fifth annual Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday, August 22 at English Park in downtown Owensboro.

The Dragon Boat Festival will feature teams from businesses, churches, and organizations from the tristate region. Teams will race in heats in order to advance to the final round where the 2015 Grand Champion will be crowned. Teams race with 20 paddlers, a drummer, and a steersperson for 250 meters down the Ohio River.

“The festival is very unique in that it provides an athletic challenge on the water. Teams have to use synchronization, communication, and trust to be successful. It’s also a fun day for friends, family, co-workers, and spectators to enjoy a summer day together watching and competing on their respective teams,” said Tim Ross, Director of Public Events and event organizer.

This is a free event open to everyone to watch. Races will start at 9:00 a.m. with awards concluding the event at 2:00 p.m. To learn more about the Dragon Boat Festival and to see race times, visit:
