CITY OF OWENSBORO ANNOUNCES RETURN OF HOLIDAY LIGHT DISPLAYS TO LEGION PARK
After an overwhelming response, the City of Owensboro will keep the holiday spirit alive at Legion Park with traditional Christmas decorations to be displayed this season. Earlier this week, the City of Owensboro announced that “Holiday in the Park” at Legion Park would not be returning. The decision was due to numerous issues including limited power availability, ongoing maintenance, and labor required for the display. Many of the Legion Park light structures have deteriorated after years of use, and setting up the displays requires substantial labor in addition to limited power availability as needs increase in other areas of the city. While we knew Holiday in the Park was well-loved, we were blown away at the passion and nostalgia generated by the generations who have visited Legion Park over the years. Although several of the original light displays can no longer be used, the event will retain the familiar, festive Holiday in the Park charm that visitors have come to love at Legion.
The City of Owensboro plans to make more exciting Christmas announcements next week. These will be published on our website owensboro.org.
