CITY HALL, TRANSIT, PARKS AND SANITATION HOLIDAY SCHEDULE

City Hall and Parks Offices will be closed on Thursday, December 24, Friday, December 25, 2015 and Friday, January 1, 2016 in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s holiday.

Owensboro Transit System will be closed on Thursday, December 24, Friday, December 25, 2015 and Friday, January 1, 2016 in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s holiday.

Sanitation – Sanitation service will be closed Friday, December 25, 2015 and Friday, January 1, 2016 with a one-day delay starting with Friday collections on Saturday.  Due to the heavy volume of trash expected during the post-Christmas holiday, customers are urged to recycle at the Drop-Off Recycling Center located at 1401 West 7th Street adjacent to the James Mason Park, with access to the general public provided from West 7th Street.  By recycling newspaper, aluminum cans, plastic soft drink, milk and water containers, cardboard, magazines and steel cans, customers can free up additional space in their mobile carts for extra holiday trash.  Recycling protects our environment, and it’s the right thing to do!

Additionally, for our customer’s first scheduled collection day after Christmas, the Sanitation Department will modify procedures and collect extra trash that is bagged and placed next to the mobile cart.  If trash is placed in cardboard boxes, customers should be mindful that rain may weaken boxes and makes collection impossible.  Please do not overfill mobile carts; unless the lid is closed, the automated collection system may drop trash in your yard or damage the cart.   Please note that extra trash collection is for holiday trash only and does not include “clean-outs” of furniture, tires appliances and the like.

Beginning Saturday, January 2, 2016 and running through Thursday, January 7, 2016 the Sanitation Department will collect natural Christmas trees on your scheduled trash collection day.  Please remove all lights, ornaments and trimmings and place curbside by 6:00 AM on your collection day.  Do not place trees in plastic bags.

To ensure efficient collection, trash must be curbside by 6:00 a.m. on collection day and cart lids must open toward the street.  Mobile carts must be placed no closer than four feet from cars, mailboxes or other obstructions; carts must be placed four feet apart if more than one cart is used.

The employees and families of the City of Owensboro wish everyone a merry holiday season!
