2024 MEETING DATES

Meeting dates of the Owensboro Board of Commissioners for the year 2024 are listed below. Commission meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 5:00 p.m. and the third Tuesday of the month beginning at 4:00 p.m.  All meetings are held in the Commission Chambers located on the fourth floor at City Hall, 101 E. 4th Street. Meeting dates are subject to change and if so, will be published.

These days are set up for children to come out to the Soapbox Derby Track at Ben Hawes and try out Soapbox Derby Racing

May 11th is our Super Kids Soapbox Race for special needs kids in the morning and registration for our June Local Race in the afternoon. May 18th -19th is a Rally Race where there will be local racers as well as racers from other areas competing. June 2nd is Impound Day for Local Race and racers will have the opportunity to take trial runs down the track. June 8th is our Local Race where local racers will be competing for the opportunity to represent Owensboro at the All American Race in Akron OH in July. The August, September and November dates are Rally Races where local racers and racers from other areas will be racing to earn points to qualify to go the All American Race in Akron OH.

The OCHS Class of 2026 have worked diligently to plan a 5K Run/Walk fundraiser to help fund our class expenses. This race will take place on June 1st, 2024 beginning and ending at Owensboro Catholic High School. This race will be open to all, in hopes of unifying community members in fun and city wide activity. We will have chip timing, and racing bibs and t-shirts will be available for pickup the day before the race. All timing and race results will be uploaded and viewable online. Top 3 in each age group will receive medals along with an overall male and female!

PorchFest is an annual event that invites members of our community together for a day of fun and music. It's a celebration of local talent, showcasing local musicians playing on the porches of houses in the Griffith Avenue neighborhood. PorchFest features lots of local food trucks. Each stage features numerous acts playing their own unique music, from rock to jazz to folk. Neighbors come out to listen to the live music and meet new people in their community. Porchfests are a great opportunity for musicians to perform and for people to mingle with their neighbors. So grab your lawn chairs, come out. and enjoy the music!

The Jeeps and Jamz Expo will be hosting a show and shine for Jeeps only during the expo. Jeeps will be lined up along Veterans Blvd with the stage and awards set up at McConnell Plaza. Food trucks will be staged on the curve of Locust St and Veterans Blvd.

Co-hosted with Shifley-York Neighborhood Alliance is a family fun day at York Park for the residents on the surrounding streets to show our appreciation to them ane acknowledge the inconvenience our presence can be to their park. We will serving grilled hot dogs, chips and water and there will be lots of family-friendly games such as cornhole, hillbilly golf, etc. AND a bouncy house!

2024 OWENSBORO NEIGHBORHOOD ALLIANCE CLEANUP SCHEDULE

The Owensboro Neighborhood Alliances will once again host the annual neighborhood cleanups. The cleanups will take place from 6:00 -11:00 a.m. on the dates listed below. All residents in the cleanup areas are encouraged to help beautify the neighborhood by picking up litter along sidewalks and streets on their scheduled cleanup day. Boundaries for your neighborhood alliance can be found at https://services.owensboro.org/maps/citizen-information.

The Sanitation Department will provide free curbside pick-up to alliance residential customers for junk furniture, appliances, tires, and other items. Place items curbside by the Friday night prior to your scheduled cleanup. If you have large items, please call CityAction at 270-687-4444 or e-mail cityaction@owensboro.org BY THE WEDNESDAY BEFORE YOUR CLEANUP to schedule a pick-up. Smaller items must be bagged or boxed. Sanitation crews CANNOT collect construction debris/materials, yard waste, dirt, paint, or any type of liquid.

Juneteenth, June 19th, marks the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States, in 1865. Juneteenth on the Ohio River includes music performances, historical reenactments, and cultural festivities. This is the opportunity for the community to come together to honor African American heritage, reflect on the struggles for freedom and equality, and celebrate the rich cultural contributions of African Americans. Juneteenth on the Ohio River serves as a significant and meaningful community celebration that highlights both the historical significance of the holiday and the diversity of local traditions and expressions.

2024 OWENSBORO NEIGHBORHOOD ALLIANCE CLEANUP SCHEDULE

The Owensboro Neighborhood Alliances will once again host the annual neighborhood cleanups. The cleanups will take place from 6:00 -11:00 a.m. on the dates listed below. All residents in the cleanup areas are encouraged to help beautify the neighborhood by picking up litter along sidewalks and streets on their scheduled cleanup day. Boundaries for your neighborhood alliance can be found at https://services.owensboro.org/maps/citizen-information.

The Sanitation Department will provide free curbside pick-up to alliance residential customers for junk furniture, appliances, tires, and other items. Place items curbside by the Friday night prior to your scheduled cleanup. If you have large items, please call CityAction at 270-687-4444 or e-mail cityaction@owensboro.org BY THE WEDNESDAY BEFORE YOUR CLEANUP to schedule a pick-up. Smaller items must be bagged or boxed. Sanitation crews CANNOT collect construction debris/materials, yard waste, dirt, paint, or any type of liquid.

5K walk to raise awareness of epilepsy and also raise funds for the Epilepsy Foundation of Kentuckiana to continue to provide support to the community. The walk will take place at Legion Park. Walkers will arrive at 9am and register, announcements will be at 10am and the walk will start at 10:15pm. The walk will end at 11am and walkers will come back to the shelter for closing remarks then leave at approx 11:30am.
