WINTER STORM WARNING – FEBRUARY 15-16, 2015

The National Weather Service in Paducah and has issued a winter storm warning for Daviess County, including Owensboro, Kentucky, beginning tonight at 6:00 p.m. and continuing through Monday night at 6:00 p.m.  Heavy snowfall is likely across the warning area.  Travel will become very hazardous and temperatures will be in the upper teens to lower 20’s.  Please allow extra time during your commute and use extreme caution and attention while traveling.   In addition, remember to bring pets inside during this cold and hazardous weather.

The City’s Street Department maintenance crews are busy pre-treating roads and will work around the clock to keep snow routes drivable by using salt and anti-icing agents.  If possible, please avoid parking on streets as this will help expedite the progress of salt and brine applicators and snow plows.  During a state of emergency, parking is prohibited on Priority 1 and 2 emergency routes. During an emergency, vehicles parked on these streets may be towed or removed at owner's expense and the owners may be fined.  Please visit our website at www.owensboro.org to view a snow removal priority route map for Owensboro’s streets.

No one can guarantee ice and snow-free roadways, so motorists must always be cautious and plan for extra travel time when driving in wet and cold weather.  Remember, Ice and Snow, Take it Slow!   Road condition reports for major routes in Kentucky are available by calling 511 or by visiting the 511 travel and traffic information web site at www.511.ky.gov.
